About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Draftsperson to join our growing and fast-paced engineering team. This role is responsible for turning conceptual ideas into clear, accurate, and production-ready drawings using strong knowledge of mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, technically strong, and capable of managing multiple projects at once. They will work closely with Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, and external consultants to support project execution from concept through to production. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, sound judgement, and the ability to develop practical and effective design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Drafting
· Translate conceptual ideas, notes, and hand sketches into formal drawings and detailed design packages
· Perform technical calculations to support design selection, material requirements, and dimensional layout
· Create and maintain 3D models using Inventor
· Prepare 2D drawings using AutoCAD
· Develop accurate and detailed manufacturing drawings in accordance with applicable dimensional and fabrication standards
· Read, interpret, and apply historical drawings, previous revisions, and consultant details as needed
Project Coordination & Drawing Control
· Complete drawing work responsibly, within project scope, and to required schedules
· Maintain, revise, and update project drawings and detailed components as required
· Review drawings for accuracy, quality, and compliance with design and manufacturing requirements
· Prepare engineering drawing packages and supporting documents for customer submission
· Create complete drawing packages for plant production and manufacturing use
· Participate in project and design meetings as required
Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Work closely with the Engineering team, Sales, Manufacturing, and Consultants throughout project execution
· Support practical design solutions that align with manufacturing methods and project needs
· Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve design challenges efficiently
· Contribute to a collaborative team environment through strong communication and interpersonal skills
Qualifications & Skills
· Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar drafting or mechanical design role
· Degree, diploma, or technologist certification in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering, or a related field
· Strong proficiency in Inventor for 3D modelling
· Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
· Sound knowledge of materials, mechanical design, and manufacturing/fabrication practices
· Strong understanding of dimensional standards, tolerances, and detailing requirements
· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
· Strong technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Experience with pneumatic and electrical drawings would be considered an asset
· Creativity, initiative, and sound practical judgement
Work Environment
· This role is based in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and is primarily in person
· The position involves close collaboration with office and plant personnel
· Applicants must be able to reliably commute to Kirkland Lake, or plan to relocate before starting work
