Job Title: Economic Development Officer
Reports To: Director of Finance and Administration
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration (DOFA), this position is responsible for facilitating, promoting, and ensuring community and economic development to secure opportunities for business development, and assist Matachewan First Nation (MFN) members with training and employment.
Term: Full-Time, 12-month Contract (with potential for extension)
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:30AM – 4:30PM
Location: Matachewan First Nation
Compensation: $60,000 - $80,000 annually
Benefits: Optional employer-paid benefits package and enrollment in pension plan
Start Date: As soon as possible
Areas of Responsibility
- Act as a liaison between local organizations, businesses, individuals and representatives of government, and industries concerning economic development opportunities.
- Develop partnerships within the community to develop and promote opportunities.
- Assist local organizations, businesses and individuals in accessing economic development opportunities and major projects.
- Consult with industry and government representatives concerning eligibility requirements for funding.
- Develop community and regional networks.
- Liaise with industry and government representatives to promote local business and individuals.
- Assist in the development of job creation projects.
- Assist with preparing business plans.
- Prepare proposals for funding to support community economic development.
- Complete program reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Research private and public sector economic development funding opportunities.
- Coordinate with Wabun Training and Employment Services (WTES) to develop and deliver training and employment opportunities for MFN members.
- Assist clients with WTES applications, job applications and job readiness initiatives.
- Other related duties as assigned by the DOFA.
Requirements
- College diploma or University degree in Community Economic Development or other related field.
- Knowledge of local, regional, and territorial economic development potential and opportunities, ability to identify and promote community economic development projects and initiatives.
- Knowledge and experience in business planning, ability to develop and analyze business plans.
- Experience in securing funding for community economic development projects and programs through private and public sector funding opportunities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). - Acceptable recent Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Able to work methodically and accurately, with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License.
