We are seeking individuals to join our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team: 
Primary Care Paramedics / Part-Time District Float
Assignments throughout the District of Timiskaming / EMS Bases: Kirkland Lake, Englehart & Haileybury
$41.11 - $43.58 per hour / Competitive benefits and OMERS pension

The District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board supports individuals in need throughout our communities by delivering Children’s Services, Emergency Medical Services, Ontario Works, and Social Housing through the effective use of available resources and in the best interest of the individuals we support. The DTSSAB is responsible for the direct delivery of Land Ambulance Services within the District. EMS Bases are in the South (Haileybury), Central (Englehart), and North (Kirkland Lake) areas.

Reporting to the EMS Deputy Chief of Operations, the Paramedic responds to emergency and non-emergency calls to provide the full scope of timely, quality, pre-hospital emergency care to the public while safely operating emergency vehicles and transporting patients to and from health care facilities. The Paramedic conducts patient assessments, provides airway management, administers
oxygen, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), provides basic trauma care, administers symptom relief medications, and performs manual external defibrillation, in addition to performing specific controlled acts, while treating patients, co-workers and management with integrity, respect and in a manner consistent with Legislation, Regulations, policies and professional standards.
Other related duties, as assigned. This position is unionized.

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:
▪ Successful completion of an approved post-secondary Paramedic training program (two-year Ambulance/Emergency Health
Care/Paramedicine Program, or equivalent) and Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) Advanced Emergency
Medical Care Assistant (A-EMCA) educational qualification
▪ Qualified as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), as defined by Ontario Reg. 257/00 under the Ambulance Act
▪ Certified by an Ontario Base Hospital Program at the PCP level to perform controlled acts and selected Advanced Life Support
(ALS) skills and qualified for CPR-Level HCP (within the past 12 months)
▪ Meet all requisite skills and qualifications as set out by the Ambulance Act and related Regulations, including meeting, and
maintaining valid health requirements (such as current immunization and being free from communicable diseases)
▪ Demonstrated physical and mental abilities required to perform as a Paramedic, provide patient care and transport
▪ A minimum of one (1) year of related experience and/or training as a Paramedic is preferred
▪ Must successfully obtain certification, annually, from the Base Hospital training program in order to perform designated medical
acts, as specified under the Ambulance Act of Ontario and applicable Legislation and Regulations
▪ Possess knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS) medical care methods, procedures and techniques, Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Patient Care Standards, Ambulance Act & Regulations, EMS operation and base hospital systems, policies/procedures,
applicable Ministry of Health policies, guidelines and specifications related to ambulance services, base hospital, equipment,
supplies, use of medications, vehicles, base station and all other aspects that govern EMS services
Knowledge of other legislated acts which may be required during the performance of duties, including: Coroner’s Act, Health
Care Consent Act, Highway Traffic Act, Mental Health Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, other, is required

▪ Effective communication (verbal/written), excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work well as a team member
▪ Good judgment, sound decision-making, commendable patient-care abilities, motivated, self-directed
▪ Professional work ethic, reliable, ability to uphold the principles of confidentiality, positive attitude
▪ Computer proficiency
▪ Bilingualism and familiarity of the local area/District are considered an asset

Commitment, ability, and willingness to:
▪ Provide availability for a minimum of four (4) 12-hour periods (or 48-hours) every two (2) weeks
▪ Perform shift work, including night shift and weekends, at any and all of the base locations to fill short-notice and pre-scheduled
shifts (based on confirmed availability, which must be maintained and remain current at all times)
▪ Travel throughout the District to assigned locations at the incumbent’s own expense

References will be required from candidates invited to an interview, which will include written and scenario testing. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, candidates will provide a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Search, Driver’s Abstract, proof of immunization and take part in a pre-employment medical assessment and post-offer job screen, as well as meet other requirements
for employment. Requested qualifications must be satisfactory to the Employer in its sole discretion.
