Job Title: Economic Development Officer
Location: Beaverhouse First Nation (BHFN)
Status: Full-Time

Beaverhouse First Nation is looking for an experienced and excited professional that would play
an important role on the community’s transformation and development, supporting the growth
and advancement of Beaverhouse First Nation in the Kirkland Lake area in Ontario. Full-time
hours, one year contract with possible extension to three years.

What do you bring?
• Post-secondary education in community development, business, commerce, economics,
or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience working with First Nations; Knowledge of Indigenous Rights, history, culture,
and current socioeconomic issues.
• Three to five years experience in community or economic development.
• Knowledge of community economic development theories and practices as well as
knowledge of local and regional economic development potential and opportunities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning processes, business principles, market
analysis, tourism, and business attraction and retention.
• Project management experience (PMP Certification an asset)
Additional Requirements
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Valid Class “G” Driver’s License
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting tools i.e., MS Teams
• Organizational, analytical, and administrative skills
• Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential subject matters
• Ability to establish and manage priorities to ensure that services and functions are
performed in an efficient and responsive manner
• Experience in compiling and writing detailed reports and briefing reports for Council
• Highly motivated and ability to work independently and be open to work on a flexible
work schedule if required.

Other Key Duties
• The Economic Development Officer will perform the following key duties, for a
three-year contract position, reporting to the Band Manager:
• Administration
• Prepare monthly and annual program statistics, quarterly activity reports, and an
annual report for the funder, band management and leadership
• Ensure the required reports and documentation are produced and are readily
• Update yearly work plan and budget submission
• Conduct research, compile data, and prepare papers as directed by the Band
• Comprehensive documentation and tracking of stakeholders’ contact and liaison
with Beaverhouse First Nation members; other communities and individuals.
Community Consultation
• Apply provisions of the First Nations principles of OCAP®: these principles
establish how First Nations’ data and information will be collected, protected,
used, or shared. Training will be provided to the EDO.
• Assist the Mining Relations and Forestry Support staff members in providing
input in the preparation of consultation plans to ensure consideration of the
Beaverhouse First Nation’s interests and inherent rights are protected.
• Create a repository of all MOU’s and Agreements with industry partners for easy
access by staff and leadership to ensure compliance of all parties.
• Assist with the creation of an Economic Development Action Committee which
will be made up of key community members and develop Terms of reference for
the committee.
• Assist with the coordination of all consultation activities and prepare reports for
dissemination to community members and band management and leadership
when required.
Public Relations
• Liaise with departmental, corporate officials and with other organizations and
associations on behalf of the Beaverhouse First Nation Economic Development
• Prepare correspondence and respond to requests for release of information as
directed by the Band Manager.
Working Hours: 8:30 AM-4:30 PM
Salary: Remuneration depending on experience and qualifications
