The Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake is seeking a
DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY SERVICES / FIRE CHIEF
Full-Time / Non-Union

The Town of Kirkland Lake is located approximately 2.5 hours North of North Bay and has a
population of approximately 8000 people. Kirkland lake has that small town feel but with many of the
amenities of a larger Town or City. Just outside Kirkland Lake, you will find many beautiful lakes and

Position Overview:
The Director of Emergency Services / Fire Chief reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and is
responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operational and administrative excellence of the fire department
which consists of full-time and volunteer firefighters. Duties and responsibilities include day to day
operations, administration, safety and health, equipment and facilities, fire prevention and education,
training, and emergency management programs. The Director of Emergency Services / Fire Chief also
oversees the response by full-time and volunteer firefighters to ensure that loss of life, damage to
property or injury, because of an incident, is prevented and/or minimized, and that service is delivered
in a professional manner.

The successful candidate will bring to this role well developed fire department leadership experience,
operational and planning skills coupled with financial, and project management experience. Your ability
to develop credibility and build effective working relationships with others as well as the ability to
effectively manage change, are key abilities required for the position.

Hours of work: 38 hours per week
Compensation: $120,377.92 - $135,395.52 (commensurate with experience) and a comprehensive
benefit package.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Provincial Firefighter I & II Certification
• Provincial Fire Instructor II Certification
• Provincial or Department Fire Officer III
• Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) professional designation is
mandatory within one year of being in the position
• Post secondary degree or diploma in Business Public Administration or related field
(considered an asset)
• Provincial or Department Fire Officer IV Certification (considered an asset)
• Provincial First Responder III Certification with AED Endorsement (considered an asset)
• 5 years demonstrated leadership experience in fire and rescue services including fire
prevention, public education training, investigations, code enforcement communications,
mechanical, fire suppression, emergency response, legislation, administration, management
training, Health & Safety
• Excellent management track record with specific accomplishments in directing budgets,
strategic planning and to provide effective recommendations as a member of the management
team
• Proven written and oral communication skills to develop and present reports, position papers
and proposals
• A proven track record and commitment to safety and environmental procedures and
encouraging a safe work environment
• Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships among peers
• Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check
